Welcome to the International Law Society Website

Welcome to the official website for the Rutgers Newark School of Law International Law Society. It's the best place to get up-to-date information about ILS meetings, talks, social events, and other happenings, as well as to find out more about the role of international legal studies at our school. We are also hoping to bring together a new database soon, which will connect students who are interested in international law opportunities with students who have had such opportunities and can thus pass along valuable infomation and assistance.

The past century has seen incredible advances in the depth and breadth of the influence of agreements between nations. Issues which were once thought insurmountable because of differences in national culture and development, compounded by the ever-present opporunity for free-riding, have found solutions in U.N resolutions and multi-national treaties. War is no longer accepted as the primary recourse for resolving international disputes. A global economy, along with its many new challenges, has emerged, further utilizing the comparitive advantages of nations, hopefully for the benefit of all mankind. These advances are attributible, in large part, to the work of international lawyers who help to maintain order and justice in such a massive system. Our group seeks to motivate and aid the work of students and academics who are involved in this pursuit.

We are a member of the International Law Students Association (www.ilsa.org) and are fully endorsed and partially funded by the Student Bar Association. Our members regularly participate in international moot court competitions such as the Philip C. Jessup and the Manfred Lachs and attend conferences and events such as the ILSA International Law Weekend. Our work has been a major force in bringing professors with an interest in international law and courses which focus on international law to our school. Perhaps most of all however, our work has helped foster an interest and development an understanding of international legal issues among the many students at Rutgers School of Law, Newark.
